Business Development – Function Lead
While on a visit to Iceland in 2017, our team was introduced to the science of converting warm water into electricity. Recognizing the massive potential for geothermal applications, we founded Baseload Capital to fund geothermal projects worldwide.
In 2018 we established Baseload Power to develop and operate these projects. Today, we have power companies operating in Iceland, Japan, Taiwan and U.S, working towards our vision of a planet in balance.
Through a global partnerships and project portfolio, our mission is to scale up geothermal energy worldwide.
Our core values: the foundation of our work
Guided by our core values, we strive to be resilient and innovative pioneers to achieve a planet in balance.
Resilient: We adapt to ever-changing environments, take responsibility for our actions, and work hard to bring about a balanced planet.
Impactful: We stay clear on our goals, making thoughtful decisions, and ensuring every effort drives real change. Through teamwork and strong partnerships, we hold ourselves accountable and always get things done—making a difference where it counts.
Pioneers: We dive into new markets and income streams, never letting the risks of being first deter us from doing what we believe is right.
This is the scene
Imagine stepping into the role of Business Development Director at Baseload Power US, and joining a small and growing team dedicated to advancing the possibilities of geothermal energy, collaborating with colleagues in Sweden, Japan, Taiwan and Iceland. Below is an overview of the role:
Responsabilities
- Take ownership of identifying opportunities for growth and finalize project proposals, including:
- Lead the initial screening of projects and ensure their business viability by conducting inter-disciplinary due diligence.
- Analyze all early-stage aspects, from environmental and public acceptance to key technical and resource development factors, as a part of the finalized project proposal for investment decisions.
- Actively work to develop and expand business networks and partnerships.
- Engage with potential customers and negotiate offtake agreements. And in doing so, daring to be creative, pushing the boundaries through new potential structures that can unlock more value for both parties.
- Manage negotiation of contracts for all partnerships, including driving dialogues with landowners to evaluate collaboration opportunities for geothermal projects.
- Actively seek, secure and engage with the best partners to develop geothermal heat and power plants in the US.
- Secure good communication and relationships with all stakeholders of our ongoing business and projects, and with our collaborators, including landowners, utilities, municipalities and off-takers.
- Work with marketing to ensure the visibility of our business in the local and international markets, at different levels including local communities, and energy industry and policy platforms.
And through the lens of our values, here is a more descriptive overview of what you will do:
Resilience: With consistency and thoroughness, you ensure that proposed projects "make sense" by evaluating them from all angles, ensuring informed decisions to move projects forward. You’ll apply the same thoughtful approach in building strong relationships with landowners, securing their support, and finalizing agreements for land and resource use.
Impactful: Finding the most impactful and forward-thinking approach, you will lead the Business Development of our geothermal start-up, strengthening our position as a sustainable company, aligned with Baseload Capital’s plans and strategy. You’ll oversee project development from the early stages, identifying buyers and/or resellers, exploring solutions that benefit all parties, and drafting and managing the contracts to ensure successful execution.
Pioneer: You embrace your entrepreneurial spirit, tempered with humility, in your dialogue with landowners regarding proposals for future projects. In a patient and inspiring manner, you communicate the collaboration model and benefit-sharing framework to landowners and other stakeholders. Additionally, you will contribute to Baseload’s mission by engaging in marketing efforts, maintaining visibility, and ensuring the company’s voice remains authentic and transparent.
This is you
You combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution. You know how to navigate complexity, but you’re equally comfortable digging into the details, engaging directly with partners, and doing the practical work that moves a project forward. In this role, initiative, ownership, and follow-through matter just as much as vision.
Aside from that, you:
- Have experience from Business Development within energy or related field, which has allowed you to gain the following experiences and skills:
- Are a great communicator that can approach different stakeholders at eye level, whether it is investors, public authorities, communities, landowners or people and professionals who want to collaborate with Baseload Power US on energy projects.
- Are a skilled negotiator with a proven track record of finding the optimum solution for all stakeholders involved.
- Strong analytical skills related to business development.
- Are a skilled presenter who can present projects based on the audience.
- Preferably have experience working in a start-up environment, but this is not a requirement.
