Project Development – Function Lead
While on a visit to Iceland in 2017, our team was introduced to the science of converting warm water into electricity. Recognizing the massive potential for geothermal applications, we founded Baseload Capital to fund geothermal projects worldwide.
In 2018 we established Baseload Power to develop and operate these projects. Today, we have power companies operating in Iceland, Japan, Taiwan and U.S, working towards our vision of a planet in balance.
Through a global partnerships and project portfolio, our mission is to scale up geothermal energy worldwide.
Our Core Values: The Foundation of Our Work
- Resilient: We adapt to ever-changing environments, take responsibility for our actions, and work hard to bring about a balanced planet.
- Impactful: We stay clear on our goals, making thoughtful decisions, and ensuring every effort drives real change. Through teamwork and strong partnerships, we hold ourselves accountable and always get things done—making a difference where it counts.
- Pioneers: We dive into new markets and income streams, never letting the risks of being first deter us from doing what we believe is right.
This is the job
As the Project Development Function Lead at Baseload, you’ll lead energy projects from first concept to operational power plant—turning vision into reality. You’ll coordinate across engineering, geoscience, communities, off-takers, and regulators to keep progress steady and aligned. In our lean, fast-moving team, you’ll make smart calls, bring in the right expertise, and keep things moving without waiting for permission. You won’t just deliver projects—you’ll help shape how we do things, building the best practices that will guide future work. If you're driven by purpose, thrive in autonomy and are excited to help build what doesn't yet exist, this is your opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the execution of projects from prospect to an operational power plant.
- Define project scope, establish detailed schedule and milestones, manage changes, and refine plan as project progresses.
- Provide or coordinate technical and engineering support for permitting, regulatory engagement, and community communications.
- Manage stakeholder relationships across the project lifecycle, including investors, off-takers, landowners, local authorities, and regulators.
- Build and lead high-performing, cross-functional project teams, coordinating with internal departments and external partners including EPC contractors and consultants.
- Define construction plans and negotiate delivery contracts, ensuring alignment with technical and commercial objectives.
- Review key technical and commercial documents (e.g., RFPs, P&IDs, EPC & O&M contracts) to safeguard project viability and protect stakeholder interests.
And through the lens of our values, here is a more descriptive overview of what you will do:
Resilient: This role puts you at the centre of high-impact energy projects—taking them from early concept through to delivery. You will have the ownership and autonomy to drive progress, bring in the right expertise at the right time, and make things happen. When unexpected changes arise (and they will), this role is about staying focused, finding solutions, and pushing forward to deliver projects that truly make a difference.
Impactful: This is a high-accountability role where your actions directly influence project outcomes. Your close collaboration with internal departments, external consultants, EPC partners, and regulators to ensure every step forward, is strategic and meaningful. In a lean team, your ability to lead through clarity, communication, and execution will be critical to making a real difference.
Pioneer: You’ll define paths forward – whether testing a novel project structure or solving complex technical challenges, you’ll lead with curiosity, courage, and a deep sense of purpose. Just as importantly, you’ll play a key role in developing and refining Baseload’s best practices, ensuring that what you learn becomes part of how we work and grow as a company.
This is you
You combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution. You know how to navigate complexity, but you’re equally comfortable digging into the details, engaging directly with partners, and doing the practical work that moves a project forward. In this role, initiative, ownership, and follow-through matter just as much as vision.
Aside from that, you have:
- A degree in Engineering, Geoscience or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience in energy project development, ideally in Geothermal, or Oil and Gas.
- Project development experience, ideally involving a broad range of phases such as managing drilling operations and supervising power plant construction, and related activities.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks and standards, ensuring compliance throughout all phases of power generation and project development.
- Experience working with HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) management systems and integrating HSE into project execution plans.
- Familiarity with national policies related to the development and financing of renewable energy projects.
- Familiarity with permitting processes, EPC contracts, and stakeholder engagement in the energy sector.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies (such as PMP and Prince2), with proven experience in applying these methods effectively, and proficiency in tools like MS Project.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills to support project execution and alignment with commercial goals.
